Reflections on Life

By Ryan Diener, L.Ac., Dipl. CH, MSOM, Holistic Health Associates

acupuncture, frederick, md, longevity

An unfortunate event occurred in my life last month which created a need for dialogue. The age of 82 was enough to mark the end of my grandfather’s life after battling kidney and a host of other issues for 5 years. I was given the distinguished honor of representing my grandfather’s life through a eulogy, to breathe one last breath of life into a man who remained positive to the end, and was respected by all who knew him. As I look back on that day with pride and honor, there remains one regret. I can’t help but wish the man for whom the eulogy was written had been present to hear the sincere words and join in the memories.

Why do we wait until death to revere life? What if we spoke to one another on a daily basis, the way we converse during life changing events such as birth and death? Think about how different the world would be if we could maintain the magnificent level of honesty and sincerity that is brought to conversations during these events. Think about the impact it would have if a loved one hears how they have influenced your life TODAY, rather than a congregation of people hearing about it when the loved one is no longer with you. The time to connect is NOW, the time to create change is NOW, the time to do the right thing is NOW. Work on improving yourself and stepping out of your comfort zone NOW, to benefit yourself, your family, your society and your world.
